A group of flight instructors at Iceland Aviation Academy has started a fundraiser through the initiative Mottumars (mustache March) the Icelandic version of Movember. The group started the fundraiser after a recently graduated flight instructor was diagnosed with breast cancer.
On the fundraiser page they say Sóley Björg graduated recently as a Flight Instructor with flying colors after having finished our IATPL program.
Sóley is incredibly strong and resourceful and does not give up easily. Life recently threw her a curveball when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. As she puts it its just another challenge to face onwards and upwards!
We are a group of Flight Instructors that has had the honor of following Sóley through her studies and want to do everything in our power to support this awesome woman through this battle with cancer.
We would really appreciate your contribution onwards and upwards!
The group has exceeded their original goal of 200.000 ISK and Þórarinn Ólafsson, Flight Operations Manager, says they are nowhere near finished. You could say that from day one of her studies positivity and hard work along with the words 'onwards and upwards' have been symbolic of Sóley", says Þórarinn. "After we got the news of her diagnosis there was nothing else to do for her teachers than gather around her and show her all the support we can. First it was just supposed to be mustaches, then came the pink ties so now you could say 'mustaches, pink ties, onwards and upwards! Were with you all the way Sóley!'
