Eight month long Adventure Guide Certificate in cooperation with Thompson Rivers University starts in August 2021.
Adventure Guide Certificate at Keilir take only eight months to complete and revolve around the aspect of tourism that is physically demanding and adventurous, such as rafting, sea kayaking, ice climbing and mountaineering to name a few. Part of the study is theoretical and takes place in distance learning with regular standard sessions, while the other part is vocational training that takes place all over Iceland's nature. The program is at the university level and is carried out in collaboration with Thompson Rivers University in Canada, which is one of the most respected in the world today in specialized studies in adventure and recreational tourism. All credits of the program are evaluable in graduate studies within TRU in the field of adventure tourism for those who intend to continue their studies.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Exemptions are granted in certain cases, but applicants are required to have completed at least half of the credits for the matriculation examination. When assessing admission, Keilir will evaluate all applications for education, previous experience and results from admission interviews. As this is a basic course in adventure guidance, no previous experience of mountaineering or water sports is required.
