Carlos Buhler, one of America's leading high altitude mountaineers, was recently a guest speaker at TRU - Keilir Advenutre Guide studies program.

 

The lecture, which included an extensive Q&A session on his experience on high-standard mountaineering was part of a three-week Expedition Planning course focusing on planning and leadership of local and international adventure expeditions.

 

Buhler is a graduate of The Putney School and the Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University. He is one of the most accomplished mountain climbers in the world with a climbing career that spans forty-five years with major ascents on five continents.

 

He draws from experience gained on forty-five expeditions to Alaska, Canada, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Kenya, Uganda, China, India, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Tibet.  

 

Carlos earned a B.S. degree in Environmental Education and Human Ecology in 1978 at Western Washington University. He is a recipient of the university's Distinguished Alumni Award. Since 1984, Carlos has given motivational lectures to corporations and organizations. His articles and photographs have appeared in various journals and magazines, including the July 1984 issue of National Geographic, which covered the story of the Everest East Face Expedition. He is now applying his leadership experience in mountaineering to help corporations worldwide overcome problems in organizational development and managerial performance.
