Top airlines and airports executives and regulators will meet in Iceland on 6 June 2013 to discuss the environmental challenges facing the aviation industry today.

Keilir Aviation Academy announces a Leadership Forum on „Aviation and Environment“presented in partnership with with the Icelandic Ministry of Interior and Transport, the Icelandic Ministry of Environment, the Civil Aviation Administration, ISAVIA and Icelandair as well as AS&C and AirTransportNews.

The high-level, multi-disciplinary Forum on aviation and environment will be held on 6 June 2013 in Iceland. Speakers from diverse governments, environmental NGOs, the aviation sector, scientists and international organisations will discuss whether aviation is doing enough to mitigate its effects on the environment.  We invite you to join these experts in order to voice your ideas as well as contributing to this great challenge on Aviation and Environment.

Two elements make this Conference so outstanding: it is inter-disciplinary, thereby enabling all participants to “broaden their horizons,”and it is timed to provide the international organisation of civil aviation, ICAO, with a broad consensus. The aviation industry claims it has made significant progress in decoupling traffic growth from CO2 growth; environmentalists dispute that this is enough. The key problem facing international aviation is that aircraft are mobile emitters and fly through different air spaces – this creates the need to find an international agreement on how to best deal with aircraft CO2 emissions. ICAO, the UN agency for civil aviation, will hold its triennial Assembly next September.
